MailKaro vs GrapesJS for building emails

GrapesJS is a great general-purpose web builder. MailKaro is email-first: email-safe HTML, MJML, and a managed backend without wiring it all yourself.

  • Email-safe (table-based) HTML out of the box, no plugin assembly.
  • MJML + inbox-safe HTML from one design, one call.
  • Batteries included: storage, assets, roles, audit, render API.

GrapesJS is a powerful open-source framework for building web-page editors. It's endlessly flexible, but that flexibility means you assemble the email side yourself: email-safe (table-based) HTML, an MJML plugin, storage, assets, and a render pipeline are all on you.

MailKaro is purpose-built for email. The blocks produce inbox-safe HTML, the backend stores designs and renders them (HTML or MJML) via a Node SDK, and you embed it as a component in a few lines instead of standing up an editor framework.

Credit where it's due: GrapesJS is open-source, self-hostable, and a strong choice when you need a fully custom, general-purpose visual builder (landing pages, dashboards, anything). If you want maximum control and don't mind building the email plumbing, it's excellent, MailKaro trades some of that flexibility for an email-ready product out of the box.

Where MailKaro is different

Email-safe by default

Every block renders to the table-based, inline-styled HTML that email clients actually support, you don't build and test that yourself.

Batteries included

Storage, assets, versions, roles, audit, and a render API come with the product. GrapesJS gives you the canvas; you wire the rest.

MJML without the plugin dance

Export MJML or email-safe HTML from the same design with one call, no community-plugin assembly.

Embed, don't assemble

Add a component and a key. There's no editor framework to configure before your first email goes out.

GrapesJS alternative: common questions

Is GrapesJS or MailKaro better?
Different jobs. GrapesJS is the better choice for a fully custom, general-purpose web-page editor you host and control end to end. MailKaro is the better choice when you specifically need an embeddable email builder that produces inbox-safe HTML/MJML without building the pipeline.
Can MailKaro build web pages too?
Yes, it has a page/document/popup builder mode alongside email, including a freeform web-page canvas. But email is where it's strongest and most opinionated.
Is MailKaro open source?
The SDK and framework wrappers are public on GitHub; the hosted editor and backend are a managed product you can also self-host on Enterprise.
